Celin resigned, but the debate continues
JOURNALISM FREE! was present during the three days of protests by students and teachers at the Universidad Santiago de Cali in which they demanded the resignation of the rector of the institution. The photo spread that accompanies this story is a follow up step by step what happened.
Text and Photos: José Julián Rivera Mena (*) After 60 hours of student mobilization in Santiago de Cali University, USC, was declared normal academic once the rector of the alma mater, Hebert Celin Navas, resigned, as demanded mostly students and teachers.
Unlocking the financial building, taken by medical and law students who were demanding a solution to problems of its powers, was one of the latest developments of the protest, which began on Monday 21 February.
Earlier on Wednesday, February 23 students met with the closure blocks one and two. The goal, according to statements by the protesters was "pressure the administration and faculty to be in solidarity, as the confrontation with some of them the day before had been exhausted."

Preceding the vote that would determine his departure from the faculty, the rector far delivered a speech in which he made all sorts of accusations about their opponents, who said he forgave.
The Superior Council vote determined the approval of the agreement made by the Board, which was opposed by a small sector of the body which considers that the circumstances of the withdrawal of Celin Navas (derived syndications for alleged irregularities in his administration) has no filing pay their high salaries for two years.
Once approved the agreement, Celin Navas left the premises of the Santiago, under heavy security cordon and with the support of his followers, mainly officers of the institution.
The dissatisfaction of a section of the students extended the term of the Superior Council meeting, they expressed they would not abandon the administrative block without first defining the road map to follow for the future of the institution.

Taking the alma mater responded to the discontent expressed by the students who requested the immediate resignation of the rector, as well as managers and call new elections for Supreme Council, a transitional process that would end statutory reform in the institution.
