Vivian Children

The story began when John Maloof purchased at auction furniture and antiques that were put on sale by the owners of a storage tank due to the arrears of their owners. Within those furniture, Maloof discovered an incredible collection of over 40 thousand negatives, mostly medium format, which knew nothing. Maloof

found a name, Vivian Maier, written in pencil on the envelopes in the laboratory. Then decided to seek information about the owner of this furniture and photographic negatives. I wanted to meet and connect, but the auction house said it was a sick old woman. Decided not to bother.

The investigation of the flamboyant owner of the age allowed to contact Central Camera Co., one of the stores selling photographic supplies oldest Chicago. They told him they had met Vivian, because from time to time they bought the film he used to work.

From what little I knew about it, it was a French-Jewish refugee, born on 1 February 1926 and had come to America after the war, in the 1950's. Even some of his works show the city of New York, where he probably lived for some time. The Maier owners of Central Camera also said a deal was very distant and he loved foreign films, which she valued more than the American.

addition of 30 to 40 thousand negatives in this collection, 10 to 15 thousand negatives were even more undeveloped film from the 60's. Even today there are 600 rolls in that condition.
In some of his photos are children and many are acclimated near the beach. Apparently, according to Maloof rebuilt, Maier worked as a nanny for a family on the north side of the city of Chicago.

On 21 April this year, appeared in the Chicago Tribune's obituary Maier. According to this text lived in Oak Park, a suburb of the city, and was "a second mother to John, Lane and Matthew."

After contacting the newspaper to find out who gave the order to publish notice, John Maloof came to an address on the north side, which did not exist and a phone number that was out of service. So many unanswered questions led him to create a blog to spread the work found, Vivian Maier - Her Work Discovered . From there, Maloof consultation what to do with this great legacy, so far unknown.
